6 Steps to starting a website

1. Domain Name:

Get one that is easy to remember for your visitors. .com are the best choices but many names are not available.

If your on a budget try another extension that makes sense and is easy to remember:

ie. for gps/navigation info site: navigationdeals.info

This would work as you will relate deals with info. However ".info" would not be easy to remember for more high octane websites: ie. girlsgonewild.info - is not a good fit as there is no relation between info/knowledge with wild girls, at least stereotypical.

2. Web hosting:

It's basically renting space for your beautiful website. It will run you anywhere from $4 to $20 a month depending on the extras provided by each provider. Pretty amazing to be able to start your own business for less than $100 a year.

3. Traffic:

Submit your site manually to popular search engines(google, yahoo, etc). Remember its not going to happen overnight. Takes a focused, content rich site to be listed at the top of search results.

4. Choosing a web design application.

Most of the web hosting services provide you with tools/apps to set up a quick site within minutes. If you need a easy to use free webbuilder check out the web site building tool section.

5. So what next?

Its best that you already have a idea and plan on how to organize your website before starting if you haven't already. It may be hard to do later as you may get anxious to finish without any direction. So brainstorm and map out your site on a piece of paper before you begin.

6. Revenue

Even if your site is not merchant based, you can still generate a small income through advertising. Options include the popular google adsense, or you can become an affiliate for one of your favorite retailers.
